It’s Dragon*Con time!

I am straight up panelisting on this one. Also, I haz a music degree so I’ve got mad street cred.

Now, on Saturday at some particular point in time, I will be at the Parsec Awards potentially accepting an award for the Forcecast. If we win, my speech will involve naked pictures of RDJ and me babbling incoherently about how you like me, you really, really like me.

From what I hear, the parties are ridonkulous, so you’ll be able to find me in one of the anchor hotel bars late into the evening. Day 4: Your Favorite Moment to Mock

This is slightly difficult. Do I choose a moment in the films (anything with Anakin) or do I go the way of the EU? THESE ARE LIFE DECISIONS, YOU GUYS. At this point, I think I’m really just going to go with the Expanded Universe and more specifically, the Young Jedi Knights, and to be exact, the life and times of Jacen Solo. He is such a tool. As a child, you feel something resembling sympathy for this pathetic creature whose greatest pleasure in life is telling bad jokes. Now, don’t get me wrong…. I don’t actually hate the YJK series. In fact, I have such a soft spot in my heart for them, most would say it was unnatural. Either way, the award for Most Mockable Moment goes to the Life of Jacen Solo.

I made this for Dunc originally, but it needs relevance.

The dubious honor goes to everyone’s favorite blue skinned admiral, Mitth’raw’nuruodo. Admiral Thrawn (I prefer to call him by his Christian name Mitth’raw’nuruodo, but that’s beside the point) is the quintessential diva. From his regal-ish bearing, to his oh-so-artistic death; he considers himself the head bitch in charge, and rightly so.

Whether it’s his art collection, or superior military tactics, Admiral Thrawn is better than you and he knows it.

So you wanna be a Jedi, huh? In that case, I suggest you enroll in the Luke Skywalker Jedi Academy. This post was inspired by a recent conversation I was having with Eric in which we were discussing how much it would suck if you had to basically become a Jedi sharecropper in the event you didn’t have the chops to become a padawan learner. I then remarked how easy the Skywalker Academy had it: everyone got to be a Jedi. I mean, we are talking EVERYONE: mermaids who can’t leave their local swimming hole, a fucking tree, and, like, people who literally have no Force ability. If ever there was a No Jedi Left Behind galactic act, this was it.

Back in the good, old days of padawans having to actually walk uphill, through a mountain of snow to get crystals for their lightsabers, they didn’t have the luxury of waiting around for a Master, or say…. HAVING FAMILIES. These kids had it rough. Routinely threatened with being sent to the farm, it made each individual initiate strive for personal betterment, also minimal Force-users weren’t even spared a second glance. It can be argued that this precipitated the Order’s collective downfall, but that’s a post for another day. Anyway, the Praxeum kids adults totes had it easy.

I love Vader. I really do. He’s basically trapped in a fishbowl of emotion and it kills me. My heart goes out to him because he’s terribly tragic, never mind unspeakably evil. I think the reason behind me liking him so much is the simple fact that it’s actually good, ole Bananakin Skywalker behind the mask making juvenile mistakes even though he’s a Sith lord and supposedly all-powerful. Guys, all he wants is to love and be loved in return.

This is pretty much the most difficult question of the bunch. Admittedly, I have a lot of “favorite” characters, but at the end of the day my heart lies with Obi-Wan Kenobi. You could even say that I owe my online presence to him, i.e. if Ewan McGregor was not gorgeous, I would not be typing this right now. Furthermore, I am not ashamed to admit that I only became interested in Star Wars due to my pre-teen shallowness in thinking that Obes Kenobes had (and still does have) a nice ass. Obviously, I’ve learned the error of my ways, but perhaps more so than his looks, it may now be the attitude that I’ve projected onto him. Somehow, I’ve reached the conclusion that post-TPM Obi-Wan is the Jedi equivalent of Robert Goulet that has staring contests with mountain animals. Yeah, I don’t even pretend that it makes sense either, but there you have it. My favorite character has a drink in one hand, a lightsaber in the other, and self-worth issues.

You win, you always do.

Road to STAR WARS: Celebration V

I’ve many a thing to do, y’all.

First and foremost is to figure out the amount of tech I need to bring and what exactly I am upgrading. I need to invest in an HD cam in addition to some type of voice recorder.

At this time, I’d like to announce my candidacy for roving girl! Reporter on the scene proving the most up to date reporting live from the trenches. If I see Olivia munn I swear I’ll take her out for you.

I’m looking forward to seeing so many familiar faces and meeting a bunch of new folks as well. If you see me, don’t be shy!

Did you ever have that experience where you were super excited about a movie to the point of puking the morning of the première from sheer excitement? Did you also ever have the experience of placing so much faith in a director, actor, and production studio to make the film everything you hoped it would be? That was Iron Man 2 for me.

I was recently converted to the church of RDJesus, and I worship at the altar of Marvel. But for reals, this movie was everything I’d hoped it would be and more. For all intents and purposes, RDJ might as well just be Tony Stark. I would watch that man boil water.

Forming a coherent review for this movie will likely be challenging and therefore, I won’t even attempt it. I’ll just pull my normal cop-out of organized bullet points and hope for the best… THERE BE SPOILERS AHEAD, MATEY.

Why I Want To Have This Movie’s Precious Babies:

Allow me to start with the oh-so-obvious: Tony Fucking Stark. It is really impossible for me to say that name without that particular expletive in the middle. At any rate, RDJesus is pitch-perfect as Tony. As a fellow artist, I believe everyone has that one role/creation/sonata/routine that they were born to perform/create. This is RDJ’s role. Sure, it’s a super-hero who is actually pretty messed up, but it’s his role. As far as characterization goes, I couldn’t be happier. He’s every bit the brilliant, obsessive, self-destructive hero he should be.
Rhodey… I dig it. I missed Terrence’s tenderness, but Don’s got some sort of Menace to him, so War Machine was totally plausible with him.
Yes, Virginia: Tony Stark does exist. I’ve read/heard a lot of things from comic book chicks that I know/lurve/trust who felt that Pepper didn’t really live up to the previous movieverse Pepper. I will go so far as to agree that screen time and characterization wasn’t as fully realized as the previous movie. I am actually okay with this for several reasons: 1) More Tony 2)More movie. Here’s the thing though, I thought that this Pepper was actually closer to 616-verse Pepper than in the first Iron Man movie. At this point, Pep is done; she is tired of Tony’s shit, and has a company to run, dammit. That’s why she got the kids in the divorce, guys. Re: her rescue (HAHA, GET IT? “RESCUE!”) I didn’t mind it. I rationalize it as she let’s Tony do his thing, and she happens to be standing near a giant bomb at the end. And I’ll be damned if I didn’t just sign up for the Goop.com newsletter. *sighs*
In Soviet Russia we do not have Dr. Pepper endorsements. Whiplash was the shit. As Kyle said, bitch had BIRDS. BIRDSSSSSS.
JHAM… Oh, you may know him as Justin Hammer, but all the cool kids are calling him JAMMER or JHAM because of those sweet moves. His shrillness thrills me.
Nick Fury = SMJ
The SHIELD. I feel so very sorry for the people around me during that little moment. I clapped my hand over my mouth and probably swooned. My first thought was, OH SHIT BITCH IS GONNA USE SOME VIBRANIUM TO REPLACE THE PALLADIUM, but no… Tony uses it as a prop. And this is why I dedicated a hash tag to him on twitter.
Tony/Pepper: I like it. I don’t love it, because she is not Tony’s One True Love. That is all I will say on the matter, but it totally works for the movieverse.
There is nothing I like more that a hot piece of Daddy Issues. TONY HAZ THEM. Also, Papa Stark will be in the Avengers movie and I like him. I LIKE HIM A LOT.
I almost forgot ScarJo!!!! I loved her as Black Widow. She was a perfect super spy. I love her reflex action against Happy.
LET’S TALK ABOUT THOSE END CREDITS!!! I screamed while several people around me looked puzzled. I may or may not have said something along the line of, “Aw YESSS, ASGARD IN THE HIZZLE, bitches.”

Lofty Thoughts:

Tony not being asked aboard as an Avenger, but as merely a consultant… I just, IDK. I have a sneaky suspicion that this sets up something slightly canonical with Iron Man being unknown/bodyguard and Tony just being the financial “backer” or consultant or what have you of this initiative, and then, naturally, the Big Reveal at the end of the Avengers movie.
I loved Tony’s characterization. It’s very pre-Demon In A Bottle, yet also very Stark: Disassembled. He loosely controls the situation by getting people pissed at him. He just can’t hand over the War Machine armor, he manipulates the situation into something that acts as a catalyst to Rhodey, who assumes the mantle of War Machine. He donates his art collection. Makes Pepper the CEO of his company. And attempts to build a Legacy by way of a scientific expo. This is the Stark we see in the comics. This is my Stark, that pulls from all universe continuities. The one thing that stays the same is the self-loathing. Tony thinks he will never be good enough (for Pepper, for Rhodey, for the Avengers, for Stark Industries, for his father, and for the world); therefore, better living through technology.

Allow me to reiterate: I loved this movie. I’m giving up library school and I’m going to run away and get a doctorate in nanotechnology. Just watch me…
